During a free course at the Haagse Hogeschool, each student was given the opportunity to work on a project of their own choice. I wanted to experiment with Augmented Reality and children’s stories. I believed – and still believe – that Augmented Reality can offer an amazing experience to kids by bringing a story to live like no other media could.
The course ran for 5 weeks, during which I could work on the project for one day each week (not counting any weekend work).
I chose a Dora book, because Dora seemed like a particularly easy character to model. For software I used a trial version of Adobe Flash and the free Blender 3d to keep costs at a minimum. In fact, the only expense made were the two books on Dora’s adventures.
The Augmented Reality effect was achieved with Flartoolkit.
