Venice should be near the top of everyone’s list of cities to visit in this lifetime. It’s a diverse and colorful place, and a great holiday destination.
To escape the crowded narrow streets, we made sure to get a hotel on la Giudecca. This island is little more then a stone throw removed from the main Venice city part, yet offers a much more relaxing experience.
Finding a decent place to eat there is hard though, and the only place I’d recommend is the vegetarian La Zucca. This little establishment offers some very creative dishes, but isn’t easily found in the endless maze that is Venice.
While we took a break from the slew of gift stores, we explored la Giudecca’s grocery stores, museums, and mysterious dead end streets that offered a glimpse of local life outside of the tourist area.
